Having survived a five-game thriller against Karim Abdel Gawad in the quarter-finals, second seed Gregory Gaultier was again pushed to the limit by a young Egyptian, this ime Mazen Hesham.

Hesham, to the delight of the packed, pro-Egyptian crowd, outplayed the Frenchman to take the first game. Gaultier struck back to establish am 8-4 lead in the second then levelled 12/10 after a Hesham comeback.

In the third it was the young Egyptian ahead, 8-3, Gaultier this time coming back to take the lead 11-9.

The fourth looked like plain sailing for the Frenchman as he went 9-3 and 10-6 up and the crowd was quiet. Hesham stages one more comeback though, urged on by and urging on the crowd, saving four match balls and gaining one of his own before finally succumbing 14/12.

Tomorrow's final will thus be between not only the top two seeds, but the last two winners of the Qatar classic.
